A Radiation Therapy Technician maintains complex medical equipment through effective implementation of the Mayo Clinic Medical Equipment Management Plan. Technician must demonstrate technical skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair and QA of linear accelerators, related radiation treatment systems and complex imaging equipment typically found in radiation therapy.
Technicians in this position must be exceptionally customer focused with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. They must have the ability to prioritize service calls appropriately, and to adhere to Mayo policy and procedure. The technician must adhere to rules, regulations, and policies regarding radiation safety, stored energy safety, and contingency plans in the event of equipment failure. They must also have advanced analytical skills and be able to solve very complex technical issues in a timely manner.
Service calls are communicated to the technician through HTM Leadership, HTM Support Specialists, or a CMMS dashboard. Emergent calls directly from the customer often require a rapid response time. On-call, overtime, and non-standard shifts will be required, as well as travel to other Mayo Clinic sites and applicable vendor training.
The technician must be committed to continuously improving their knowledge to develop a mastery of increasingly complex equipment and to support the mission of Mayo Clinic.
The primary function of this position is radiation therapy equipment support, however secondary work in other imaging departments may be required. The Radiation Therapy Technician will have a mastery of accelerator and imaging repair principles, and can demonstrate success in the most complex of therapy equipment repairs. They will often work with and share knowledge with less experienced technicians.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Biomedical Electronics/Healthcare Technology Management, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics) with one year direct experience maintaining linear accelerators and radiotherapy equipment. Associate’s degree in Biomedical Electronics/Healthcare Technology Management, Electronics, Mechatronics, Engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics), or technical discipline and 3 years of direct experience maintaining linear accelerators and radiotherapy equipment;, or U.S. Military training in biomedical electronics, mechatronics, or engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics) and 3 years direct experience maintaining linear accelerators and radiotherapy equipment.
Alternatively, 5 years of combined imaging, radiotherapy or particle accelerator equipment maintenance may be considered in lieu of minimum direct accelerator maintenance.
- AAMI ACI Certification: AAMI-CBAT, CBET, CRES, CHTM, CISS, CCEACCE-HTCC, CCE
- Knowledge of safe work practices around biological, chemical, radiation and energy hazards.
- Familiarity with test and QA tools/software needed to perform medical equipment maintenance
- Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, and medical terminology.
