Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Purchasing Specialist performs the following duties to assigned sites across Mayo Midwest: accurately and efficiently procures and ensures an effective inventory of medications and supplies; assists with the management of medication shortages; processes medication recalls and the return of pharmaceuticals and/or their destruction; and performs the duties of a Pharmacy Purchasing Technician as assigned.

Qualifications

Note: These qualifications apply to the Pharmacy Purchasing Specialist, which are the minimum qualifications that must be met for all levels.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (business, management, accounting or related field) AND 2-years of pharmacy technician experience;

OR

  • Two-year college degree (healthcare or business preferred) AND 4-years pharmacy technician experience;

OR

  • High school diploma AND 6-years pharmacy technician experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2-years’ experience in pharmacy purchasing and inventory control strongly preferred.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse, or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
  • Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
  • Must be detailed-oriented; able to prioritize work and able to work independently under general guidelines and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills; computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications; work collaboratively with others and work independently with minimal supervision.

License and Certification

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
  • Current registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, or eligible to obtain prior to start date.
  • May not perform duties requiring registration until registration is obtained.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

Note:

Placement within a level and within the range is dependent on experience and qualifications. Purchasing Specialist: $26.00 - $38.55 / hour
Purchasing Specialist Tech V: $26.71 - $39.82 / hour
