Occupational Therapist - Mental Health

Therapists are responsible for the application of current knowledge, theory, evidence and sound clinical judgment in patient management. The therapist works closely with the patient, family and other members of an interdisciplinary team to provide efficient and effective individualized patient care. Therapists also serve as advocates and promoters of health, wellness, and fitness to all stakeholders. They serve as educators and mentors for therapy students, peers and other medical professionals.

The occupational therapist assists with department and program planning.

Mental Health Occupational Therapists are responsible for the application of current knowledge, theory, evidence and sound clinical judgment in patient management. The therapist works closely with the patient, family and other members of an interdisciplinary team to provide efficient and effective individualized patient care. Therapists also serve as advocates and promoters of health and wellness to all stakeholders. They serve as educators and mentors for therapy students, peers and other medical professionals.

The mental health occupational therapists also assist with program planning. The primary duty of this therapist will be working in both inpatient and outpatient settings with one of the largest psychiatric treatment groups in the United States. The therapist will treat patients both individually and in groups in the following inpatient units:

Psychiatric Acute Care Unit, Medical and Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, Mood Disorder Unit, and the Child, and the Adolescent and Family Treatment Unit. Based on program needs, and staff desire, training may also occur in The Adult and Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Centers and the John

E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility. Support for the general acute clients (physical disabilities) in St. Marys Hospital will occur during weekend rotations.
