This position, located in the Southwest Watershed Unit, provides technical support in the collection and analysis of water quality and flow data across southern Minnesota. The incumbent assists Stressor Identification and flow monitoring staff with field sampling, data entry, and preparation to facilitate efficient, accurate, and safe monitoring efforts. Through these activities, the role helps inform environmental protection decisions and supports compliance with MPCA standards and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Post-secondary education student working on an environmental degree or related degree.

(To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student you must be enrolled in high school or in a post-secondary or graduate program.

If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. Preferred Qualifications

Course work in either Hydrology, Geology, or Environmental Science.

Familiarity with groundwater sampling techniques or water chemistry analysis.

Experience or training in statistics and good data entry skills.

Good communications and writing skills are helpful.

Ability to work in a team setting.

Physical Requirements

Be able to perform field work associated with monitoring projects. Frequently carry up to 40 lbs of equipment from vehicles to monitoring well sites. Should be capable of moderate physical exertion in summer heat and sun.

Additional Requirements
