Join us at Frisbie Memorial Hospital for the RN Emergency Services PRN role. This position supports the Emergency Department with professional nursing care and patient coordination.
Job SummaryThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care, coordinates patient care planning with other disciplines, and manages patient admissions, assessments, and discharge. The RN ensures safe, effective, and compassionate care for a diverse patient population, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Essential Position Functions- Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required.
- Perform head‑to‑toe assessments and reassessments; monitor hemodynamic status and interpret results.
- Identify and treat dysrhythmias; accurately assign triage categories.
- Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation of patient histories, treatments, and status changes.
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity; address psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Serve as liaison among administration, physicians, and other providers.
- Demonstrate knowledge of life‑span development for age‑specific care planning.
- Involve patients and families in the care plan and educational activities.
- Administer medications and intravenous fluids; prepare, hang, monitor, and discontinue IVs.
- Adhere to departmental policies, performance‑improvement initiatives, and safety standards.
- Assist in cost containment by ordering and conserving supplies.
- Cooperate with staff to achieve departmental objectives; maintain good employee relations.
- Adjust assignments quickly in response to workload changes.
- Provide resource information to other staff and assist physicians with procedures.
- Perform dispatching of ambulances and receive prehospital reports.
- Supervise unit coordinators, ED technicians, and delegate as appropriate.
- Orchestrate orientation for new employees.
- Assist the Director of Emergency Services in performance‑improvement initiatives.
- Participate in educational programs and ongoing professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the NH Nurse Practice Act.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- One year of Registered Nurse experience in a critical‑care specialty preferred.
- New Hampshire State Registered Nurse License or Compact State License.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within one year of hire.
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Core Course (ENPC) certification recommended.
- Trauma Nurse Clinical Care (TNCC) certification recommended.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification recommended.
- Membership in the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) encouraged.
- Completion of Hospital Orientation and Departmental Orientation within six months of hire.
- Annual Health Stream courses and high‑risk crisis intervention training completed annually.
- Meeting all mandatory health and safety screenings.
