Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology – Two Positions (Ecology and Evolution & Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology)

Hobart and William Smith Colleges

Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for two Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology positions to begin August 1, 2026. These are full‑time, one‑year positions with a teaching load of six courses over two semesters, typically two class‑based courses with associated labs and two lecture‑only courses. HWS Biology courses have access to molecular biology facilities, cell culture and microscopy equipment, computing resources, and field‑based resources including a campus forest, a research vessel on Seneca Lake, and a 100‑acre field station a short distance from the main campus.

Visiting

Assistant Professor of Ecology and Evolution

Teaching responsibilities will include one or more core courses (Introductory Biology, Ecology, Evolution, or Biostatistics) and upper‑level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. This appointment has the possibility for renewal contingent on successful annual review and ongoing curricular needs.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology

Teaching responsibilities will include one or more core courses (Introductory Biology, and/or Genetics, with the possibility of teaching Biostatistics depending on departmental needs and candidate expertise) and upper‑level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Qualifications for both positions
  • Ph.D. in an appropriate field and college‑level teaching experience (or A.B.D. with college‑level teaching experience).
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary teaching and inclusive classroom practices.

The salary range for this position is $59,160–$68,000.
