Assistant Director, Student Transitions & Success
Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for the Assistant Director, Student Transitions & Success within the Center for Campus Life’s Student Engagement Team. The role reports to the Associate Director and focuses on developing and delivering orientation and commuter student services, advocating for new and transitioning students, and building leadership opportunities for student mentors.
Job SummaryLead the design and execution of New Student Orientation, Transfer Student Orientation, and Off‑Campus & Commuter Services (OCCS). Support students through campus transitions, provide targeted programming that introduces campus culture and available resources, and serve as an advocate and educator for evolving student needs.
Job Responsibilities- Plan and collaborate with campus partners to develop and provide orientation & commuter student programming.
- Train and develop orientation & commuter student leaders and employees.
- Manage and train Campus Groups for orientation & commuter related content.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure accurate marketing, communications, and promotion materials are created to support orientation & commuter student services.
- Plan events, manage risk, and assess orientation and commuter programming in collaboration with the Associate Director.
- Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of full‑time professional experience in higher education/student affairs.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information and protect it appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Understanding of legal and risk‑management policies, compliance expectations, and university procedures.
- Experience in building respectful, empathetic working relationships with diverse groups.
- Budgeting experience and acumen.
- Experience with student staff development and supervision.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
