Job Description
The formulation and system testing technician position requires work in both a chemical laboratory and the thermal media system test lab. Chemical lab work includes handling various solvent and aqueous solutions, dyes and imaging chemicals for the preparation and testing of mixtures required to coat thermal receiver and donor experiments. Once the experiment is coated, system test lab responsibilities include testing for image quality and print performance in Kodak Thermal Photo Printers.
PositionSummary
The formulation and system testing technician will work with formulation scientists, media integration and manufacturing engineers to complete the experimental work required to develop and commercialize new thermal receiver and donor products or implement improvements to existing products. They are active members of the receiver and donor development teams and work with the formulation and media integration engineers to ensure all product changes are smoothly integrated into the Thermal Photo Printing Systems.
Key Responsibilities- Complete experiments and required testing as outlined by formulation and media integration engineers.
- Prepare lab scale chemical mixtures that are required for experimentation or to be included in a pilot coating test.
- Perform various analytical tests and quality checks (i.e., pH, viscosity, % solids, UV/Vis spectroscopy).
- Keeps accurate documentation of experiments and testing results
- Ability to summarize and accurately communicate data and observations from experimental work to others.
- Prepare paperwork and provide support to pilot coating experiments.
- Perform print performance testing in accordance with procedures provided by media integration engineers.
- Must be able to work in a fast pace, changing environment.
- Works with computer-controlled equipment and processes.
- Ensure test equipment is updated, as necessary, with any hardware or firmware changes.
- Follow all safety protocol when handling chemicals and working in a lab environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
- Possess strong communication skills, reading, writing and team interaction skills.
- Ability to present a clear, concise, visual message through data, both in summary and detail.
- Orientation toward detail and thoroughness.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Highly motivated, aptitude to learn quickly, takes initiative and works with minimal guidance.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Basic technical writing skills to support test documentation, test status and problem reports.
- 3+ years of experience with thermal photo printers and printer applications
- Familiar with image evaluation, image quality and color science.
- Familiar with Adobe Photoshop.
- Associates Degree in Chemistry or equivalent experience.
Compensation: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour – Based on Experience
