Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Mid‑Level Mechanical Designer to join the Buildings MEP group in Rochester, NY. Our team of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers brings extensive experience across a diverse range of projects, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing facilities. We serve a variety of clients, including private, government, municipal, industrial, and institutional sectors. We specialize in designing new and renovated mechanical building systems, along with advanced energy control solutions.

Our services include both new building commissioning and retro‑commissioning. With a focus on energy efficiency, our experts optimize energy use while ensuring comfortable interior environments. Our professional engineers carefully assess the impact of design decisions on both short‑term capital costs and long‑term operational expenses. Additionally, we conduct constructability reviews to help reduce project costs and accelerate timelines.

Responsibilities
  • Create and assess project designs.
  • Perform calculations with software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.
  • Create and review mechanical design plans, models and details in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Perform site visits, make observations of ongoing construction progress, and survey the mechanical components of existing buildings.
  • Coordinate with architects (internal and external), owners, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
  • Perform quality control related tasks.
  • Be responsive to others and share information and new ideas to improve processes and help achieve company and project goals; listen and engage in productive and critical debate.
  • Attend training seminars and presentations by professional organizations to further design knowledge and develop business skills.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience required.
  • AA Degree required.
  • Required to be technical in their field, commercial, office buildings, government buildings and manufacturing facilities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $52,000 to $83,500 per year (depending on qualifications).
