Overview
Land Surveying Technician - Rochester, New York
Join to apply for the Land Surveying Technician role at Thew Associates PE-LS, PLLC. Thew Associates is a land and hydrographic surveying and mapping firm headquartered in Canton, New York with branch offices in Marcy (Utica), Saranac Lake, and Syracuse, New York.
Responsibilities- Perform surveying and mapping services including topographic, boundary retracement, construction, hazardous waste site, and as-built surveying.
- Conduct hydrographic surveying (multi- and single-beam acoustic, ADCP, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiling, and sediment sampling).
- Utilize terrestrial laser scanning and sUAS (drone) services as part of surveying projects.
- Prepare mapping and field notes; take clear and concise field notes with sketches.
- Compile and process data in an AutoCAD environment (preferably Civil 3D) and related software; assist in preparing drawings and deliverables.
- Travel and stay out-of-town on a frequent basis as required by project needs.
- Preferred A.A.S. in Surveying Technology or B.S. in Surveying Engineering.
- Preferred two years of experience performing field surveys.
- Working knowledge of Trimble GPS/GNSS devices, Trimble robotic total stations, and Trimble data collection devices.
- Experience performing static and RTK GPS/GNSS surveys.
- Experience performing random traversing and differential leveling.
- Experience performing document research, boundary line reconnaissance, and property line blazing.
- Experience performing topographic surveys for engineering design; ability to take clear and concise field notes with sketches.
- Experience preparing mapping in an AutoCAD environment (preferably Civil 3D).
- Ability to travel and stay out-of-town on a frequent basis; valid driver's license; willingness to embrace and learn new technologies.
- Experience with Civil 3D (Release 2013 or higher) and single- and/or multi-beam acoustic sonar with Hypack hydrographic surveying software is highly desirable.
Candidates must possess strong math and computer skills and be proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Excel, and Microsoft Word; must be able to work independently.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
