Summary

Over the course of a one year period, participants in the Gear Engineering Development Program will go through a variety of gear technology modules. Our expectation is for the participant to be given the necessary tools to learn Gear Development Technology so they can make an immediate impact in the organization and prepare them for a successful career as an Application Engineer with the Gleason Works.

The individual in this role acts as the direct contact between Sales, the customer, and the Gleason organization to coordinate technical activities related to Gleason Gear Technology - machines, tools, process, work holding, machine qualification, and training. Having some level of bevel and cylindrical gear knowledge would be desirable.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Provides related technical assistance to customer regarding previous or future purchases, trouble shoots existing problems with machines and processes, and makes suitable recommendations for improvement or correction. This is done in person, by phone, e-mail, or other remote communication device.
  • Analyzes, defines, documents, and reports customer requirements and expectations for machine programs. Uses Statistical Process Control as required in support of machine qualification to verify that machines purchased by customers meet their quality and production requirements.
  • Calculates and Optimizes Gear Designs, Generates Machine Settings, for Customer and Machine Programs.
  • Determines production analyses for potential machine sales by predicting cycle times and duty cycles based on customer's production needs and prepares proposal.
  • Defines tool configuration for the required process and verifies new machine capabilities and processes by testing or analyzing.
Relationship Building
  • Serves as a liaison between the sales organization and the customer for information on design, production, inspection, testing, and performance standards of Gleason products.
  • Performs promotional work by presenting new developments, machines, and processes.
  • Works closely with Sales, tooling engineers, shop personnel, project manager, and the machine proposal group to meet or exceed customer needs.
  • Develops and conducts presentations and training courses covering gear processes, machines, tools, and sales.
  • Travels to customers and other Gleason facilities in support of machine programs and customer needs.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline is required. Knowledge and experience with Gear Process Technology is a plus. Must have strong PC skills including MS…
