Responsibilities

Coordinates or manages inpatient and outpatient admissions, including bed assignments and the completion of preliminary paperwork for patients entering the hospital. Verifies insurance benefits and ensures coverage meets hospital admission standards. Coordinates admissions with medical, nursing, and accounting staff to ensure appropriate placement of patients and compliance with third‑party payers and applicable regulations. Provides guidance to others and focuses on more complex assignments.

Essential

Functions
  • Interprets eligibility for admission, documents in the hospital computer system, and maintains patient records for accurate charges.
  • Exericises tact and independent judgement to assign accommodations, coordinate transfers and discharges, and manage bed assignments to ensure correct charges.
  • Notifies appropriate facilities regarding negative pressure rooms and books reservations for prospective patients and guests following established procedures.
  • Discusses pending admissions/services with physicians to ensure proper information, collaborates on postponement of elective services, and assists with administrative details for decedent affairs.
  • Applies complex multi-factorial guidelines for non-viable live birth and fetal death, and exercises judgement in patient flow and resource utilization.
  • Screens admit orders for codeable diagnosis and correct services, and audits daily bed census and other patient/customer counts.
  • Acts as liaison for Funeral Home Directors and serves as resource for staff and Transfer Center activities.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Basic understanding of Central Registration, Health Information Management, Financial Counseling, and Pathology required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Hospital software (EPIC) required.
