As a Unit Secretary, you are an integral part of the nursing unit, creating a lasting first impression by meeting and greeting patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
Attributes- Two years’ experience in a healthcare or customer service position (or similar) preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact successfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Demonstrated experience with PC and software programs

- Unit Administrative Duties
- Answer telephone, route calls and provide administrative support for nursing and physicians; sort and distribute mail throughout the nursing unit.
- Assist with healthcare team member, physician, patient and visitor inquiries.
- Maintain patient flow for the unit by verifying daily census list against actual census; notify bed coordination of known discharges as they occur.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory and supply levels determined by unit; create work orders, HELPSTAR tickets and report any unit needs to environmental, engineering, injury prevention, or appropriate department.
- Daily rounding of patients on unit, update whiteboards, conduct room surveys for potential harm, and ensure safety measures are in place.
No specific licensing required.
Physical RequirementsSedentary work – exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Jobs involve sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing.
Pay Range$17.00 – $18.00 per hour
