Public Health Sanitarian; Program

This specialized professional position applies the principles of natural and social sciences to detect, evaluate, control and manage environmental factors that influence public health. Duties include performing environmental health and sanitation activities, independently conducting inspections and investigations. Employees must complete the Basic Environmental Health Course approved by the New York State Department of Health within two (2) years of appointment or be separated from the position.

The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a Senior Public Health Sanitarian, Public Health Engineer, or other higher‑level staff member. Supervision of subordinate personnel may be exercised. The role periodically serves on‑call duty for emergencies and performs related work as required.
