You know the person everyone calls when the easy fixes don't work. You've spent years troubleshooting networks, managing servers, securing environments, working through Microsoft 365 issues, handling migrations, and figuring out problems that don't come with step-by-step instructions.

Maybe you've spent your career inside an MSP. Maybe you've consulted independently. Maybe you've even run your own IT business and discovered that you love the technology, clients and problem-solving a lot more than you love owning every single responsibility that comes with running a company.

TES Staffing is partnering with a a small, established IT services company looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join its eight-person team. This isn't a highly segmented corporate IT department where networking belongs to one team, servers to another and cybersecurity to someone else.

It's an MSP.

That means you need to know a lot about a lot, and when something breaks, you need to be comfortable figuring it out.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll work alongside the senior technical leadership to manage and support client IT environments from end to end.

Your work will include:

• Managing client networks from internet connection through endpoints
• Troubleshooting complex network, server and systems issues
• Deploying and migrating servers and Active Directory environments
• Supporting Microsoft 365 tenants
• Managing network security and helping protect client environments from interruptions and breaches
• Working with next-generation firewalls, including platforms such as Sonic Wall and Fortinet
• Configuring and troubleshooting VLANs and managed Ethernet switches
• Supporting hypervisors and virtual server environments
• Managing backup, recovery and restoration processes
• Identifying infrastructure, security and technology improvements for existing clients
• Working directly with clients to explain issues, recommend solutions and get problems resolved
• Occasionally traveling to client locations throughout the region, including Buffalo and Syracuse
• Participating in a rotating after-hours/on-call schedule when client needs require it

This is not a position where every unfamiliar issue gets escalated to someone else. You'll have access to all internal systems, tools and knowledge base, but you'll be expected to investigate, troubleshoot and take ownership.

You don't need someone standing over your shoulder. When you encounter something you haven't seen before, your instinct is to research it, test it, read the documentation and work the problem.

Technology isn't simply something you happen to do for work. You genuinely enjoy it. You keep up with what's changing. You read about new threats, products and tools. You probably have a home lab, a stack of saved technical articles, or at least a tendency to wonder, “There's got to be a better way to do this.”

You also understand the reality of working for an MSP: priorities can change quickly. A normal morning can turn into three unrelated client problems before lunch. You can move between projects, tickets and conversations without losing track of what matters.

And because you'll interact directly with clients, you can translate technical information into clear, professional language without making someone feel foolish for not understanding the technology.
