Baystate Interpreters, Inc. is seeking dedicated and professional interpreters to join our team as 1099 independent contractors
. In this vital role, you will facilitate communication in various settings, enabling effective interactions in education, medical, legal, and community environments.
Founded in 2001, Baystate Interpreters, Inc. provides essential interpreting and translation services that improve the lives of the communities we serve. We serve more than 2,200 clients in over 350 languages, working with a highly skilled team and an extensive network of contract interpreters. Excellence in interpretation is achieved by partnering with the most skilled and qualified interpreters in the industry.
Key Responsibilities- Comply with all Baystate Interpreters, Inc. policies regarding information security and confidentiality, including HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, and any other applicable regulatory standards.
- Deliver clear and accurate in-person interpretation between English and the assigned target language.
- Follow all established interpreter guidelines and procedures as outlined by Baystate Interpreters, Inc. and its partnering clients.
- Adhere to the ethical codes of the IMIA, NCIHC, ATA, NAJIT, ISO, and other recognized professional bodies, upholding strict standards of impartiality, confidentiality, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity.
- Foster respectful and professional communication with patients, clients, medical professionals, and other service providers.
- Continuously develop specialized terminology and domain knowledge—such as medical, legal, and social services vocabulary—to better support client needs.
- Maintain professionalism, neutrality, and discretion during all interpreting encounters.
- Provide high-quality interpretations without altering, omitting, or adding information, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and customer‑service abilities when supporting clients during sensitive or complex situations.
- Manage assignments effectively by being punctual, well‑prepared, and adaptable across a variety of environments and client requirements.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be 21 years of age or older (in compliance with applicable legal and contractual requirements for this role).
- Proficiency in English and at least one additional language.
- Strong communication skills and a composed demeanor in challenging situations.
- Flexibility and reliability to meet the demands of per diem assignments.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for accurate interpretation.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations.
- Preferred:
Completion of a 60‑hour Medical Interpreter Training Course from a well‑regarded institution.
