Job SummaryThe maintenance staff is tasked with the upkeep of buildings and grounds, as well as upkeep of machinery and processing equipment needed to operate and maintain the facility. The Plant Instrument Controls Technician (ICT) will report to the Maintenance Manager and will be maintaining all plant inspection, instrument, electrical, and controls systems and assets. ICTs will be members of the shift Maintenance teams and responsible for completing both planned and unplanned work in accordance with included instructions as well as any applicable rules and regulations.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and specialized duties in the repair and maintenance and updating of instruments, controls and process control network systems involved throughout the entire manufacturing process.
- Work as part of a team to plan, analyze and control the quality of processes.
- Inspect, repair, and adjust Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and related equipment using electrical test equipment, circuit diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Install or replace instrumentation devices (e.g., flow sensors, temperature sensors, pressure sensors) and program or download parameters to devices.
- Install or replace control systems that fail to operate; continuously monitor all operation processes to detect and correct malfunctions.
- Install or replace PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives and program or download parameters to devices.
- Continually improve process control systems through Advanced Process Control, Alarm Management, and Operator Interface Optimization.
- Act as plant liaison for new system start-up and commissioning with outside controls contractors and system integrators; ensure proper transfer of PLC program changes and training on installations/changes.
- Integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and process controls; train end users on operations of newly installed or modified systems.
- Provide technical training to lower-level personnel.
- Work in all areas of the facility including the Packaging, Processing, and Facilities/Utilities Departments.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Minimum of three (3) years maintenance experience in Industrial Control System development and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience with PLCs:
Allen Bradley Micro Logix or Micro
800, Compact Logix & Control Logix;
Siemens Step 7. - Experience with HMI or SCADA programming and configuration;
Ether Net/IP, Profi Net, Profi Bus, and ASi networks. - Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens VFDs and Servo Drives.
- Strong PLC skills with hardware/software troubleshooting and system administration.
- Experience programming in IEC 61131-3 languages (ladder, function block, structured text, etc.).
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
- Associate degree in electrical/electronic engineering or related military training; additional professional training.
- Experience with FTView ME/SE;
Siemens S7 PLCs;
Eaton and Danfoss VFDs. - Industrial networks experience:
Ethernet IP, Profi Net, Profi Bus, CAN, BACnet, AS-i, Modbus; familiarity with SQL databases. - Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems; industrial electrician training.
- Dairy and/or high-speed beverage maintenance experience; programming in Visual Basic or similar.
- Regular use of machines and hand-tools; standing for extended periods; normal hearing/vision; ability to read engineering drawings and manuals.
- Good math/reasoning; ability to interpret engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints.
- Physical demands: standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs occasionally; pushing/pulling, bending, kneeling, crawling, twisting, climbing, reaching, grasping, and data input.
- Notify supervision of repairs or adjustments that may affect product quality or food safety.
- Follow color-coded container policy in Production Areas; meet Company, Customer, and/or Government requirements/standards.
- Initiate actions to prevent nonconformities related to Food Safety and Quality and control nonconforming product as needed.
- In case of absence, a similarly skilled employee will assume duties.
Travel requirements: 50% initial for training, 10% steady state
Employment type: Non-Exempt
Base salary range: $45-$47/hr, $2/hr premium on overnights
