Base pay range

$90,000.00/yr - $/yr

Position Summary

The Quality/Infection Preventionist Registered Nurse (QIP RN) is responsible for leading and managing the organization’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs. This position ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations—including CMS, CDC, and Department of Health (DOH) standards—while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement throughout the facility. The QIP RN serves as both a clinical expert and strategic partner, driving initiatives that protect residents, staff, and visitors from infection risk, enhance care outcomes, and maintain regulatory readiness.

Job Functions
  • Program Leadership:
    Direct and maintain the facility’s comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) in compliance with CMS Phase 3 regulations and QSO-22-19-NH.
  • Conduct continuous monitoring for communicable diseases and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Utilize standardized infection definitions (e.g., McGeer criteria) and report findings to the Quality Assurance Committee.
  • Develop, review, and implement evidence-based infection prevention policies.
  • Oversee environmental cleaning, disinfection, isolation precautions, and PPE use.
  • Manage staff screening, immunization compliance (COVID-19, TB, influenza, etc.), and illness tracking.
  • Provide staff education on infection control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE, and respiratory etiquette.
  • Validate competencies to ensure consistent compliance and safety.
  • Analyze infection data, identify trends, and submit reports to NHSN and DOH as required.
  • Serve as the facility lead during outbreak events (e.g., COVID-19), coordinating testing, contact tracing, communication, and mitigation.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director to monitor antibiotic use and prevent antimicrobial resistance.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Department of Health, CMS, and regional infection control networks.
  • Coordinate and maintain a comprehensive QAPI program in compliance with 42 CFR 483.75.
  • Develop facility-wide quality dashboards and performance metrics using data analysis tools.
  • Track and analyze clinical indicators such as infections, falls, pressure injuries, medication errors, and hospital readmissions.
  • Identify trends and proactively address performance gaps.
  • Lead investigations following incidents, adverse events, or survey deficiencies; develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Lead Quality Assurance Committee meetings and interdisciplinary performance improvement projects.
