LVN​/LPN – Medical Surgical NURSE

Summary

The LVN/LPN will provide high-quality nursing care on the 6800 Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit at Rochester General Hospital, a 39-bed adult and geriatric complex care unit. Patient populations include medical-surgical, orthopedic overflow, telemetry, and long‑term complex cases. This role requires strong clinical judgment, previous charge experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced hospital environment. The nurse will work with a full interdisciplinary support team including IV therapy, respiratory therapy, PT, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and more.

Staffing ratios average 1:6 on nights, and Epic charting experience is required.

• Provide direct care to adult and geriatric patients with complex medical and orthopedic needs
• Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and respond to changes in patient condition
• Manage IV therapy: start and maintain IVs, manage peripheral lines, PICCs, and central lines
• Administer medications including heparin protocols and blood products
• Provide respiratory support including HFNC, nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, and tracheostomy care
• Manage feeding tubes, surgical drains, wound care, and wound vacs
• Participate in rapid response and code team procedures
• Float within Med‑Surg as needed
• Document all care accurately using Epic
• Follow infection control and isolation protocols

• Active LVN/LPN license
• Minimum 2 years recent experience
• Previous Charge Nurse experience (required)
• Travel nursing experience
• BLS certification (required)
• Strong IV therapy, phlebotomy, line management, telemetry, and emergency response skills
• Ability to work 3×12 hour night shifts and every other weekend
