Ensure the quality of product is met in an efficient, safe manner and provide support to the Quality Assurance Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities- Ensure all products meet the customer and product requirements.
- Keep all work areas and equipment within SQF Standards and maintain cleanliness.
- Ensure all practice equipment is properly worn, calibrated, and functioning.
- Keep all equipment that is used clean, in your area, and prepared for the next run.
- Perform microbiological testing.
- Perform checks to balance batches such as Brix, Salt, PH, Acid, and alcohol.
- Use ingredient samples from bulk containers and perform testing.
- Recommend adjustments to batches by adding or subtracting.
- Monitor the filler machine and lines for weights, codes, labeling, and pasteurizer temperatures.
- Verify codes closely; identify ink issues or wrong settings.
- Perform visual checks, record results, weigh product on calibrated scales, and bring samples to the QC bench for testing.
- Place batches or finished products on hold as required.
- All other assigned duties required during your work period.
- Oversee all technicians and quality concerns.
- Investigate matters including supplier‑related or customer‑driven issues.
- Fill in for technicians during absences.
- Ensure coverage of departmental personnel with production lines.
- Mock recalls per customer requirements.
- Cross‑check analysis for QA technicians.
- Actively organize and review processes for continuous improvement; verify all holds are entered into Oracle.
- Verify that all work orders pertaining to any quality holds have been completed and distributed to appropriate personnel.
- Create any necessary work orders based on quality testing results.
- Remove and/or adjust any holds.
- Participate in Koshers and regulatory audits.
- Notify suppliers and vendors of any holds or FYI’s created due to defective materials and ensure timely removal.
- Investigate any customer complaints and complete documentation.
- Coach, mentor and develop staff, including preparing and conducting performance appraisals.
- Maintain employee work schedules, including time‑card approval, assignments, rotations, training, vacations, and paid time off.
- Report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
- 3‑5 years of quality experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing with 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Ability to work with numbers, perform calculations, and possess mechanical abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication skills; must work closely with all departments and management levels.
- Adaptability to fast‑paced work environment and timely data recording.
- Proficiency in using Distiller, microscope, microbiological plates, refractometer, salt titrator, acid titrator, PH meter, various gauges, torque meters, and other equipment.
- Previous use of handcarts and pallet jacks.
- Computer experience, including Oracle and Microsoft Office.
- Varying work‑area temperatures.
- Wet, slippery environment with continuous forklift traffic.
- Handling and working around moving equipment and chemicals.
- Frequent use of hot/cold water for checks and cleaning.
- Long‑term standing, constant foot movement, frequent bending, and constant stair climbing.
- Grasping and handling objects frequently.
