Summary:Under the supervision of the Supervisor of El Camino Café, the Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality hot, cold, and frozen beverages, as well as light food items such as sandwiches and salads. The position includes early morning and weekend coverage often independently to ensure timely café opening, preparation, and service. The Barista must demonstrate excellent customer service, bilingual communication skills (Spanish and English), and a cooperative spirit when working alongside workforce development staff and program participants with a wide range of mental disabilities.

- Open the café at 7:00 a.m., ensuring all food, beverage, and service areas are prepared for business operations (Monday to Saturday)
- Prepare and serve a full range of hot, cold, and frozen drinks according to established recipes and customer preferences.
- Prepare light food items including sandwiches, salads, and snacks in compliance with food safety standards.
- Operate and maintain coffee equipment, blenders, and other café machinery.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café, including food prep areas, counters, and seating spaces.
- Process customer transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system.
- Follow health, sanitation, and safety guidelines consistently.
- Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all customers and program participants.
- Collaborate cooperatively with workforce development staff and job coaches, while maintaining professionalism and respect for program participants.
- Communicate effectively with the Supervisor regarding inventory, equipment needs, and scheduling.
- Assist with occasional special events or catering services related to the café.
- Work weekend shifts and early morning openings as scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of El Camino Café.
This position functions with moderate independence during assigned shifts, especially during early morning and weekend hours when working without on-site supervision. The Barista follows established procedures and policies to maintain service standards and safety.
Requirements PositionQualifications:
- Customer Oriented – Ability to take care of customers’ needs while following company procedures.
- Dependability – Reliable and able to work independently during early and weekend shifts.
- Communication (Bilingual) – Able to communicate clearly and courteously in both Spanish and English.
- Teamwork – Works cooperatively with staff, job coaches, and program participants.
- Detail Oriented – Maintains accuracy in drink preparation, cash handling, and cleanliness.
- Ethical & Professional – Demonstrates professionalism, respect, and adherence to agency values.
- Flexibility – Willingness to adjust to changing schedules and needs of the café.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in food service or café operations preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) required.
- Experience or comfort working in inclusive environments with individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Safe Serve Level #1 Manager Certification (or willing to acquire it during training period of employment at Ibero)
Position requires frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 30 lbs., as well as regular use of hands and arms for operating café equipment.
