The Shortage Control Associate (SCA) contributes to a secure shopping environment while delivering exceptional customer service. Your presence at store entrances, exits, and high-risk areas helps mitigate theft and create a safe shopping environment. You will engage with customers and associates in a manner consistent with our company core values, providing a confident, friendly, and energetic greeting with eye contact and a smile.
You will monitor for safety and security standards to reduce opportunities for theft, shoplifting, and other dishonest activities. You will report theft incidents or suspicious subjects to the Manager on Duty as identified.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times, wearing the designated dress standards, radio, and earpiece
- Stand at the front of the store, stay vigilant and aware of surroundings
- Greet every customer entering or exiting with a warm smile and a loud, friendly greeting to promote a sense of control and security
- Create a secure environment and reduce opportunities for theft
- Possess knowledge of top shortage areas and support programs aimed at theft reduction
- Effectively communicate information about theft prevention during store rallies, collaborating with the Manager on Duty
- Conduct bag and package checks on store and corporate associates, ensuring adherence to safety and security standards
- Understand the role in keeping the store and assets safe and secure
- Provide support in training associates on shortage reduction programs and processes
- Role-model safety as a top priority and address unsafe practices promptly
- Identify and report theft incidents and/or suspicious subjects to the Manager on Duty
- 1+ years of experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, Asset Protection, Loss Prevention, or Operations (preferred)
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and visually monitor the store environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to review, analyze, and comprehend business trends
- Positive demeanor, strong posture, and energetic greeting
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with detailed focus and disciplined decision making
- Excellent communication with customers and co-workers
Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Part-time associates may be eligible for Burlington’s benefits package, which includes medical coverage and a 401(k) plan, as well as paid time off and holidays in accordance with applicable law. Training and development opportunities are available.
