Mindex’s School Tool division develops the state‑leading Student Management System (SMS) for New York State. The team handles the full lifecycle of the product, including sales, training, support, and maintenance.

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer (Progress Open Edge) to join the School Tool team. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, problem‑solving skills, and a passion for building reliable, scalable solutions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior engineers, product teams, and customers to understand requirements, design technical solutions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our platform.

• Assists in determining customer requirements using problem analysis and critical‑thinking skills; defines and develops clear problem statements that represent customers’ needs and requirements in collaboration with senior team members.
• Designs and develops technical software solutions, including software architecture, and participates in peer reviews.
• Contributes to examining systems flow, data usage, and work processes.
• Writes and performs testing that aligns with a methodology agreed upon by the team or business unit.
• Documents each aspect of an application as a reference for future upgrades and maintenance.
• Identifies bugs and assists in the development process to fix bugs and address customer concerns.
• Understands the importance of software security and assists senior team members in making decisions around security.
• Assists in writing infrastructure as code for cloud architecture.
• Curiosity to learn and advance technical knowledge.
• Write and maintain high‑quality documentation.

• Experience with Progress Open Edge technologies such as Open Edge ABL, Webspeed, RDBMS.
• Experience with XML, jQuery, and Ajax is a plus.
• Experience with Crystal Reports is a plus.
• Experience with AWS technologies such as Lambda, Cloud Watch, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates, or implementing observability is a plus.
• Knowledge of object‑oriented software design.

Base salary range: $70,000 – $120,000 per year, with additional variable compensation through commission.
