You will be part of a team that values strong subject knowledge, high‑quality teaching and a belief that all students can achieve highly in Maths. This role offers excellent professional development and the opportunity to work alongside a new Assistant Headteacher for Maths and a Lead Practitioner focused on teaching and learning excellence.

For the right ambitious candidate – particularly those further on in their career – there will be scope to explore additional responsibilities within Maths or across the wider school, as we continue to grow talent from within and build one of the strongest Maths teams in Essex.

We are determined to become the school of choice in Essex – a place where every young person is challenged, supported, and inspired to thrive. This isn't a dream – it is a promise and you will be at the centre of delivering and creating this.

The Role

To deliver high‑quality teaching and learning in Maths, supporting all students to achieve outstanding outcomes. You will join a dynamic department at an exciting point in its journey, working within a team that values expertise, collaboration and a growth mindset.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Maths lessons to students across all key stages, following the national curriculum and the school's schemes of work
  • Assess, record and report on students' progress, providing effective feedback to support learning
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Maths department, sharing best practice and supporting departmental initiatives
  • Participate in department meetings, staff training and school‑wide CPD opportunities
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Headteacher for Maths and Lead Practitioner to drive teaching and learning excellence
  • Create a positive, supportive classroom environment with high expectations for all students
  • Support the ethos, values and policies of The King Edmund School

For experienced candidates: take on additional responsibilities within the Maths department or across the wider school, as appropriate, contributing to our aim of developing one of the strongest Maths teams in Essex.

What We're Looking For
  • A degree, or equivalent experience, with a teaching qualification
  • Proven ability to teach outstanding lessons across the 11-18 range, with first class classroom management skills
  • The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to further the department
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills
  • A firm understanding of key national and educational policies and issues
  • The ability to inspire high achievement in young people from all backgrounds
  • A clear commitment to improving your own and others' performance through effective continuous professional development
Why Join King Edmund School?

This is a school with immense potential and a powerful sense of purpose. Under new leadership, we are creating something exceptional – step by step, brick by brick. You will be joining a committed, talented team at a moment of transformation, where your leadership will directly shape our school's success story.

Come and be part of something extraordinary!

The school day lends itself to a good work/life balance with the teaching day ending at 14:10. The school offers an extensive support programme, including mentor/buddy system, Initial Teacher Training support for Early Career Teachers (ECTs) or for those seeking Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS), a system of twilight training sessions, as well as excellent development opportunities. Staff benefits include free car parking, onsite gymnasium and swimming pool as well as staff recognition schemes.
