York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Teaching Performance

Provides students with appropriate course materials (syllabus, calendar, policy statements or guidelines). Adheres to course competencies in the preparation and delivery of quality instruction. Is organized and prepared for classes. Teaches and tests relevant content. Paces instruction and varies delivery to meet different learning styles. Provides appropriate and timely feedback. Maintains a positive environment for optimum student performance. Provides for and values appropriate student input.

Maintains accepted standards of achievement. Helps coordinate clinical education and assignments of students to clinical rotations. Ensures documentation, evaluation, and progression of clinical performance which leads to clinical competence.

Instructional Development

In coordination with the department chair and other faculty, prepares and maintains competency-based support materials for all courses. Assists with selection of instructional resources. Provides academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development of student clinical experience.

College and/or other Community Service

Promotes the College as much as possible. Cooperates with and participates in projects and activities of the College and, as appropriate, in the community. Serves on advisory committees as requested. Promotes and supports the continuing education program of the College. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with college personnel.

Professional Development

Seeks ways to keep current in the teaching field. Develops an annual professional development plan (with short and long-range goals) in keeping with the College’s mission and institutional goals. Participates in appropriate courses, seminars, and workshops, especially those that introduce new ideas or practices.

Instructional Management

Maintains required and appropriate records and files. Submits all reports in an accurate and timely manner. Handles student work and records in a professional manner. Provides organization and supervision of student clinical experiences. Performs other duties as required. Provides continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experiences. Helps with the summer orientation meeting for the onboarding and collection of necessary documentation for new cohorts.

Preparation for weekly clinical and laboratory sessions is required for efficient and meaningful instruction of the students.

Student Advisement

Provides appropriate academic guidance. Maintains office hours and is available to assist faculty during assigned and optimum times for advising. Acts as a liaison for faculty and students for advising. Takes advantage of advising training. Learns and uses computer resources to access data. Is knowledgeable of institutional policies, procedures, and programs. Makes referrals and conducts follow-up as appropriate. Uses discretion in dealing with confidential information.

Clinical

Coordination

On site supervisory presence in the dental clinic to support completion of student hours. Arranges for external clinical experiences as allowable and appropriate with approved partners.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a CODA accredited institution.
  • Possess a South Carolina dental hygiene license.
  • Possess a CDA license.
  • At least three years of documented clinical experience in the field of dental hygiene.
  • At least three years of documented chairside clinical experience in the field of dental assisting.
  • An associate in applied science degree in Dental Hygiene.
  • A diploma in dental assisting from a CODA accredited school.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Knowledge of the curriculum, instructional methodologies, and alternative delivery methods.
  • Communication skills to interact verbally and in written form with students, peers, administrators, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other professional organizations.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet timelines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings as needed.
