Pharmacy Technician II

The Pharmacy Technician serves as a part of the healthcare team at Piedmont Medical Center and collaborates with other team members to provide optimal care. The Pharmacy Technician accepts responsibility and accountability for provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures. Assists pharmacists in preparing, labeling and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and supplies, receiving, sorting, and stocking medications and supplies.

Bills and credits medications to patients.

Overview

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Associate's Degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Acute Care Setting: minimum of two years in any setting with one year of experience in a hospital setting preferred. Strong knowledge of basic mathematics (ratio and proportion), effective verbal and written communication, and ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of medication names (trade and generic), doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects.

Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Current SC Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern license required. SC State-Certified Pharmacy Technician registration preferred. National Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB) preferred. American Heart Association BLS Certification required, to be obtained within 7 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates the accurate and safe preparation, distribution and control of medications throughout the continuum of care. Demonstrates proficiency with pharmacy software, hardware and equipment. Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers, team members and third parties to ensure optimal medication management.
• Assists pharmacists in preparing, labeling and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and supplies, receiving, sorting, and stocking medications and supplies. Bills and credits medications to patients.
• As a Technician II designated Pharmacy Technician, expanded job responsibilities and requirements may include additional training in specialized areas of need (e.g., pharmacy buyer or automated dispensing cabinet functions, on specific software/hardware or pharmacy automation), preparation of sterile IV compounds (not including chemotherapy), checking the work of other technicians as eligible, or other advanced duties as assigned.
• Performs tech-check-tech duties as eligible. Performs sterile IV compounding/admixture.
• May perform in an informal leadership role, identifying opportunities and leading process improvement initiatives in coordination with leadership.
