Experience >

Four years of commercial/naval experience as a first class Ship fitter. Skills and Other Requirements

• Multi-Pass Tack Welding
• Burning-Oxygen/ Propane Burning Torch
• Heating-Oxygen/ Propane Heating Torch
• Ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches to include weld symbols, material types, datum and reference lines.
• Ability to comprehend fractional dimensions as with the use of a ruler.
• Ability to lay-off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.
• Ability to assemble structural piece parts in accordance with specifications in a quality manner.
• Experience working in a physically demanding environment (shipbuilding, steel fabrication, etc.).
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.
• Use vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns).
• Air Carbon Arc Gouging
• Ability to use Work Packages and Drawings to plan and execute work.
• Ability to use Molded Lines and Ship Reference Lines to execute required work.
• Ability to Erect, Set and Makeup Complex-shaped Shell Plates.
• Ability to Erect, Set and Makeup Decks, Bulkheads, Longitudinal, trunks, etc.
• Ability to Install and Replace Hull Inserts and Penetrations, Ability to Install Misc. and Complex Foundations.
• Must pass all pre-employment screenings including: respirator physical and all medical qualifications, hair follicle drug-screen and 7-year background check.

Optional Skills

• Rigger/Material Handling
• Optical instrument experience (Level, Transit)
• Shipwright / Erect & Set experience.
• Tank Testing
• Mobile equipment operation (JLG, Scissor Lift, etc.)

Tack Welding Qualification

Shipfitters will be required to pass a Multi
- Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test. The test will consist of:

• Using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Process.
• With MIL-10718-M (A-5A) Filler Metal of MIL-E-22200/1.
• In both the Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions.

Work Authorization Requirements

• Proof of Identification - Driver's license or any other identification card issued by federal, state, or local government that contains a photograph and the person's name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and street address.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship (Must Provide One)

• U.S. birth certificate (birth documents issued by a hospital, notifications of birth registrations; and Puerto Rico birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010, are not accepted)
• Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
• U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Certificate of Naturalization
• A record of Military Processing – Armed Forces of the United States (Form DD 1966), provided it reflects U.S. citizenship.
