Responsibilities
- Assists the Natural Sciences lab technician with setting up and taking down experiments for chemistry and biology course laboratories.
- Cleans glassware and other lab materials.
- Assists the Natural Sciences lab technician with organizing lab equipment and chemical reagents.
- Maintains records of the chemical inventory in the chemistry (and biology) labs.
- At times, this position will require testing and troubleshooting lab procedures for their effectiveness.
- Performs maintenance checks of safety equipment (e.g., eye wash stations, safety showers) in the chemistry and biology labs at regular, specified intervals and logs the results.
- Performs safety tests on reactive materials in the chemistry lab at regular, specified intervals and logs the results.
- Assists the chemical hygiene officer with maintaining and updating Safety Data Sheets and other lab documentation.
- Assists the Chemical Hygiene Officer with storage and disposal of chemical (and biological) waste.
- Checks and maintains safety resources (e.g., first aid kits, spill kits).
