Pediatric Hospitalist – Medical DirectorUW Health in Northern Illinois, seeks a BE/BC Pediatric Hospitalist to serve as Medical Director to join our team of nine Providers, part of a large Medical Group of 350 primary/specialty care Providers.
With a $130 million expansion of women’s and children’s services at UW Health including the creation of a Level III NICU, UW Health’s growing portfolio of pediatric services will provide a busy community-based practice with pediatric subspecialists affiliated with a major academic medical center.
As a teaching hospital UW Health offers the opportunity to work with family practice residents and medical students and the individual selected for this position will be eligible to apply for academic appointment at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.
Job Duties- Provide leadership and vision to the pediatric hospitalist providers.
- In conjunction with nursing and administrative leadership, assist with oversight and optimization of clinical care delivery across the inpatient unit, including development of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
- Share guidelines developed within the Department of Pediatrics for patient care.
- Establish a collaborative relationship with the Emergency department staff and assist/consult on pediatric patients when requested. Establish this standard for the entire hospitalist group.
- Work with the pediatric clinical nurse specialist and pediatric nurse manager to promote the highest quality and safest pediatric care.
- Provide support and leadership to Pediatric nurse practitioners in their role in the newborn nursery.
- Maintain a list of committees at Swedish American Hospital that warrant pediatric hospitalist representation and attend or delegate to division members including Pediatric Department meeting, Pediatric Quality and Safety Subcommittee, and Pediatric/ED Multidisciplinary Committee, and the Women’s and Children’s Pediatric Service Line meeting.
- Work with all admitting providers and services as necessary to reach annual hospital goals.
- Ensure pediatric hospitalist schedule is completed on a timely basis.
- Establish a relationship with the pediatric hospitalists and participate in scholarly, quality, and clinical activities.
- Address any HERO reports regarding the pediatric floor patients.
- Meet with the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, Director of Inpatient Pediatrics and Pediatric Specialties, and Nursing and Physician Director of Women’s and Children’s Service line to establish quality and safety goals.
- Meet monthly with the Director of Inpatient Pediatrics and Pediatric Specialties.
- Meet monthly with the pediatric hospitalists, pediatric clinical nurse specialist, pediatric nurse manager, and Director of Inpatient Pediatrics and Pediatric Specialties to discuss cases, quality issues, operational issues, divisional goals, and collaboration with pediatric specialties and the Emergency department.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned.
