Job SummaryTeach assigned classes and perform activities related to classroom instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan course content and assign appropriate coursework.
- Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
- Assist in revising course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed.
- Meet classes at assigned times.
- Participate in formative and summative assessment of student learning.
- Actively participate in course and program assessment.
- Maintain student records, evaluate student progress and assign grades.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Prepare course/class reports as required.
- Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in‑service training, etc.)
- Assist in short‑term and long‑term planning.
- Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
- Demonstrate lifelong learning through the reading of latest research and journal articles.
- Attendance and participation in conferences related to teaching area and membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
- Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
- Recruit students when appropriate.
- Assist in placement of graduates when appropriate.
- Regular attendance is expected.

Minimum Qualifications- Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education OR Master's degree in Education and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline.
- Ability and willingness to teach introductory courses in mathematics (particularly courses below the calculus level), including courses that provide corequisite support for less well‑prepared students.
- Prior teaching experience in college‑level courses required.
- Completion of at least 18 credit hours of core, graduate‑level mathematics coursework that includes both a two‑course sequence in Real Analysis and a two‑course sequence in Abstract Algebra.
- Commitment to the community college mission.
- Desire to be involved in division and college initiatives.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in classroom and office settings.
