Special Education Paraprofessional – fulltime
Rockford Area Schools is currently accepting applications for a Special Education Paraprofessional at the Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School. Special Education Paraprofessionals provide assistance to students receiving Special Education support under the direction of a licensed Special Education Teacher. They assist teachers in general classroom activities, engage with academic task completion, promote participation, provide social emotional health and safety, direct positive behavior, help assist with social interactions, track goal data, and more.
The paraprofessional could provide support in both a 1:1 capacity and group manner. They may also provide general education push‑in support services where needed.
- Enthusiastic about student learning.
- Excellent communication and data privacy skills.
- Strong work ethic, flexibility, and team collaboration are essential.
- Demonstrated interest and respect for the unique needs of students and families.
- Associate Degree/equivalent or prior designation as a highly qualified (HQ) paraprofessional. Alternatives to achieve highly qualified status are available. Necessary training and testing is provided before starting with students.
- First Aid and CPR Certified (preferred)
- Handle with Care Certified (preferred)
The position is assigned 3.5-8 hours per day. Paraprofessionals work approximately 180 school days per year.

BenefitsBargaining Unit: SEIU – Rockford #883, Agreement Page – Support Staff Agreement
Medical- Single Coverage – District pays $735 toward premium (per 1.0 fte position/pro-rated)
- Family Coverage – District pays $1350 toward premium (per 1.0 fte position/pro-rated)
- District contributes $550 into HSA – if enrolled in high deductible plan
- Flexible Spending Acct:
Employees may elect to contribute on a pre-tax basis to Health Flexible Spending Accounts and Dependent Care Accounts
- The District contributes 7.5% of your total salary in the Public Employees Retirement Association pension plan
- Employees may also elect to participate in a matching Deferred Compensation Plan
Dental:
Single coverage – District pays sum not to exceed $35 for employee only
Life Insurance:
District provides $50,000 of life insurance at no cost, employee may purchase supplemental life insurance
Long Term Disability:
Availalbe through payroll deduction.
