Summary
This part-time position supports the overall church’s ministry effort with family ministry, including youth, and young adult ministry. The primary goal for the Director of Youth Ministry is to provide support with youth programming and events, while also leading an effective young adult’s ministry. Working closely with staff and leadership of First Covenant Church, the Director of Youth Ministry will assist in supporting current ministries and developing new ministry initiatives aimed at reaching families and young adults throughout the community.
Family,Youth and Young Adult
- Oversee and manage Youth and Young Adult ministries of church.
- Oversee curriculum selection for youth and young adult ministries.
- Be the primary teacher or develop a teaching team for youth ministry, e.g., Youth Group gathering, Youth Sunday School, Confirmation class (a biblical and theological study for middle school students).
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer leaders.
- Occasional Sunday worship service youth participation events.
- Occasional youth ministry trips, e.g., winter camp, summer camp, retreats, and intercultural trips.
- Ongoing development and implementation of safety guidelines and requirements including volunteer background checks.
- Provision and organization of appropriate resources and supplies.
- Communication with youth, young adults and their families.
- Maintenance of attendance records and reporting.
- Plan and coordinate weekly youth group meetings. Examples being set-up rooms, plan games, secure food/snacks, plan transportation for students who need a ride, plan transportation for offsite activities, send weekly text and email reminders to families and volunteers.
- Ensure that youth and young adult programs have necessary supplies and lessons plans for Sunday school classes, Bible studies, confirmations, etc. as needed.
- Assist in planning and coordination of special events, outreach events, service projects, summer mission trips or UNITE (tri-annual national youth gathering).
- Complete other responsibilities as directed by pastoral staff.
- Develop, coordinate, and lead a college aged young adult ministry
- Plan bi-weekly events for young adults that create a fun environment for young adults to connect with one another as well as grow in their faith.
- Build Christ-Centered relationships with young adults that demonstrate the qualities of a faith-based community (prayer, service, communal Bible study, etc.)
- Collaborate with staff and leadership to develop a vision and plan for young adult outreach
- Incorporate young adults into the broader life of the church
- Attend weekly staff meeting with whole staff (Wednesdays 10:15am)
- Attend Council Meetings (generally two hours per month)
- Assist church staff and leadership with creating and executing new initiatives and events to build relationships with neighborhood families and young adults.
- Assist with creating promotional materials for print and social media to promote upcoming events.
- Maintain a schedule of church-related events that require childcare to be available and assist in recruiting volunteers and/or staff to ensure adequate supervision.
- In collaboration with church leadership and staff, support the ongoing training and recruiting of volunteers.
- Work with pastoral staff to ensure that youth protection policies and procedures are followed.
- Attend weekly mentoring session with Senior Pastor to discuss faith, vocation, and ministry related topics.
- Utilize various forms of communication to further build relationships with students, young adults, and families.
- Connect with and mentor students and young adults outside of the church walls in relational ministry under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.
- Attend the ECC’s Next Gen Conference every other year to gain new insights and further ministry training.
- Be an active member of the church and possess same values.
- Understanding and active commitment to being an authentic follower of Christ.
- Prior experience in children, youth, or family ministry or related field.
- Strong social skills and ability to lead and teach kids and youth.
- Ability to communicate professionally with adults.
- Desire to learn and develop new ministry models and approaches.
