Summary
This part-time position supports the church’s ministry effort with family ministry, including children. The primary goal for the Director of Children’s Ministry is to provide support with children’s programming and events as part of an effective family ministry. Working closely with staff and leadership of First Covenant Church, the Director of Children’s Ministry will assist in supporting current ministries and developing new ministry initiatives aimed at reaching families and children throughout the community.
Family,Youth, and Young Adult
- Oversee and manage Children ministries of church.
- Oversee curriculum selection for children.
- Set up games and activities for Wednesday night Children’s Ministry.
- Set up Wednesday night registration table with electronic sign-in, flyers, and other communication for families and students.
- Lead Children’s Ministry program once a month (or more as designated) on Sunday morning.
- Occasional Sunday worship service children’s participation events.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer leaders.
- Ongoing development and implementation of safety guidelines and requirements including volunteer background checks.
- Provision and organization of appropriate resources and supplies.
- Communication with children and their families.
- Maintenance of attendance records and reporting.
- Complete other responsibilities as directed by pastoral staff.
- Work with Senior Pastor to coordinate weekly Bible centered family program and develop teaching team.
- Work with Senior Pastor to create and maintain a vibrant small group ministry focused on family needs, parenting needs, children’s needs. Examples include, but not limited to Bible centered small parent groups, MOPS (a pre-school parenting ministry), date nights, parenting workshops, movie nights, etc.
- Work with Senior Pastor, Elder Board and Church Council to strategize enhancing our church family by relationship building with young, diverse families and their children.
- Continue to enhance relationship with Boys and Girls Club and Cribz2
Crayons by including them / inviting them to FCC children’s and family centered events.
- Attend weekly staff meeting with whole staff (Wednesdays 10:15 am)
- Attend Council Meetings (generally two hours per month)
- Attend Sunday morning service (generally four hours per week
- Attend Wednesday Evening programs (generally three hours per week)
- Attend weekly mentoring session with Senior Pastor to discuss faith, vocation, and ministry related topics.
- Attend other children and youth activities or events that require FCC representation.
- Assist church staff and leadership with creating and executing new initiatives and events to build relationships with neighborhood families and children.
- Maintain a schedule of church-related events that require childcare to be available and assist in recruiting volunteers and/or staff to ensure adequate supervision.
- In collaboration with church leadership and staff, support the ongoing training and recruiting of volunteers.
- Work with pastoral staff to ensure that children’s protection policies and procedures are followed.
- Utilize various forms of communication to further build relationships with children, students and families.
- Attend the ECC’s Next Gen Conference every other year to gain new insights and further ministry training.
- Understanding and active commitment to being an authentic follower of Christ.
- Be able to provide Christ-like servant leadership
- Prior experience in children’s or family ministry or related field.
- Strong social skills and ability to lead and teach children.
- Ability to communicate professionally with adults.
- Desire to learn and develop new ministry models and approaches.
