Senior Project Engineer

A leading global manufacturer in the confectionery and consumer goods space is seeking a passionate and driven Senior Project Engineer to join its dynamic team in Loves Park, IL. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact capital projects, drive operational excellence, and contribute to continuous innovation across manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of capital projects, including documentation, layouts, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, production, and maintenance teams to deliver operational and financial analyses for project justification.
  • Manage vendor relationships, equipment procurement, installation, and startup activities.
  • Serve as the engineering representative on cross-departmental project delivery teams.
  • Drive cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives across plant procedures and manufacturing methods.
  • Analyze plant operations to reduce downtime, energy consumption, and safety risks.
  • Maintain technical layouts using ACAD and 3D engineering tools.
  • Support training programs and ensure compliance with safety and food safety standards.
  • Conduct technical evaluations and select equipment suppliers to meet process and packaging needs.
  • Apply methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, SMED, and Preventative Maintenance to optimize performance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (MBA preferred).
  • 4-6 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in engineering project management.
  • Proficiency in CAD, technical system analysis, process improvement, and manufacturing methods.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, FDA regulations, and permitting requirements.
  • Expertise in food processing equipment and plant engineering systems (e.g., HVAC, steam, compressed air, wastewater treatment).
  • Experience with packaging equipment, robotics, and automation.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a focus on coaching and problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
