Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Pump Design Engineer with strong experience in fuel pump design, analysis, and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise with positive displacement pumps, including balanced/F‑vane, gear, and axial piston pumps, with experience in centrifugal and external gear pumps considered a plus. The role focuses on developing robust, cost‑effective pumping solutions that meet customer requirements.
Key responsibilities include pump design and analysis, supporting root cause investigations, evaluating test and empirical data, validating design tools, and reconciling analytical results with test performance. Strong communication skills are essential, as the engineer will work with both internal and external customers and must effectively communicate technical information to a variety of audiences.
What You Will DoResponsible for completing design and analysis tasks for one or more pump programs, including driving development activities on schedule and within budget, while ensuring all technical and regulatory requirements are met. Provide design support across all phases of the design cycle: concept and optimization, preliminary through detailed design, development, validation, certification, manufacturing, and operational service. Design new products and processes and improve and maintain existing products to help create better products or processes and ensure that the current and future needs of the business are met.
Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality. Develop data and make layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. Resolve design problems of difficult‑to‑complex scope to ensure project completion. Review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Design mechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability. Work with suppliers for sizing and selection of supplier‑designed components (valves, EHSVs, sensors, and motors). Evaluate and determine the suitability of non‑conforming (NCM) products, including documentation of rationale. Validate design models and tools with empirical data from test programs. Be a key participant in root cause investigations.
Conduct sustaining activities for fielded products.
You Must Have Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
