The Civil Engineer Trainee position with the Illinois Department of Transportation assists in preparing final plans and implementing highway construction projects across District 2 in Dixon. The role involves ensuring accuracy of engineering work, providing measurements and documentation, creating layouts and plans, and rotating through different bureaus as part of a structured training program. This position offers a pathway to advance to Civil Engineer I within 7-9 months and higher levels within 24 months, with exposure to diverse engineering specializations and professionals.
Keyqualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from ABET-accredited college, Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate, or Professional Engineer/Structural Engineer license
- Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (or 2.5+ if seeking certificate-based qualification)
- Valid driver's license and district-wide travel availability
- Working knowledge of civil engineering practices and ability to use engineering field and office instruments
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Successful background screening completion
