Sheriff's Deputy

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Sheriff's Deputy. The successful applicant will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Sheriff's Deputy. Starting salary is $68,203 per year.

The mandatory physical and written test will be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 9am at the Justice Center, 650 West State Street, Rockford, IL. All applicants must attend on this date. Please bring your driver’s license and cell phone for registration. Wear athletic clothing for the physical fitness test.

• Citizen of the United States
• At least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in Illinois
• No felony convictions or other offenses that would prevent attendance at the certified academy for basic police training under the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILSC 705/1 et seq.) or possession of a firearm.

• Merit Commission Interview
• Psychological Assessment
• Medical Examination
• Successful completion of the Police Academy
