Correctional Officer

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Corrections Officer. The successful applicant will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Corrections Officer.

• Starting wages are $26.46/hour (effective 1/1/2025).
• Shift schedules are 12-hour days, in a rotating 2-week schedule. Officers work 15 days a month with this cycle.
• Probationary officers will be assigned to day shift (6am-6pm) or night shift (6pm-6am) based on operational needs. After probation, officers can bid on shifts based on seniority.
• The Winnebago County Jail is the 2nd largest in the state, with a bed capacity of 1,313 and an average daily population of 750 inmates.
• Opportunities include K9, Field Training Officer, CERT, Gang Unit, Court Officer, Firearms Instructor, and more.
• Fully paid state academy training.
• Annual uniform allowance of $800.

Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Illinois.
• No felony convictions or crimes preventing attendance at a certified police training academy or possessing a firearm.

• Psychological Assessment
• Medical Examination
