Produces appropriate dimension ultrasonic recordings and doppler flow images of heart and related structures for diagnostic use. Technicians are responsible for operating and caring for diagnostic equipment, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, and serving on committees and/or task forces and participating in projects as needed/requested. He/She may be required to alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, call schedules, flexible hours, and overtime as necessary to ensure the delivery of quality patient care at assigned site(s).
Responsibilities- Performs echocardiograms per standard imaging protocol, measures per ASE standards, providing appropriate and adequate procedures accurately for high quality safe patient care.
- Actively works consistently in Adult Echo/Stress/TEE/Call Coverage which may include some pediatric.
- Recognizes arrhythmias and/or takes appropriate action by notifying physician if EKG reads abnormal, acute MI, complete heart block, wide QRS, tachycardia or heart rate greater than 140.
- Assesses the quality of electrocardiographic and echocardiography recordings and corrects deficiencies whenever possible. If unable to correct deficiencies, documents on the graphic recording. Provides the physician with technical comments of diagnostic findings upon completion of the echocardiogram and reviews and discusses discrepancies of technical comments.
- Documents patient and procedural information in the patient medical record completely including patient history form. Ensures all charges are complete with 98% accuracy.
- Educates the patient and family (as applicable) about the procedure and documents the process in the patient record.
- Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
- Utilizes equipment according to established procedures and refers to manuals as needed. Properly notifies coordinator/manager of equipment requiring repair and processes appropriate paperwork.
- Ensures inventories and medical supplies are ordered or lets appropriate staff member know when supplies are low.
- Assists with the orientation of new personnel and documents on orientation record.
- Assists with data collection for the SQI program.
- Attends minimum 70% of department educational programs and 70% of staff meetings. Attends all mandatory in-services or schedules makeup sessions. Assumes personal responsibility for own continuing education to maintain current knowledge in area of responsibility. Takes own initiative to maintain current CPR certification.
- Provides practical instructions for students and onboarding partners.
- Assists with/contributes to department leadership team by setting positive clinical examples, completing projects in a timely fashion, and participating in advanced level clinical duties as requested.
- Actively participates in one (1) of the following: a professional council, a committee, a task force, a mentoring program, or functions as a primary preceptor.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Associate Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program, preferred.
- Approved CPR/BLS Certification within 90 days.
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS within 1 year.
