Overview
The Nursing Team Leader will have operational accountability for an assigned nursing area/unit during a specific shift. The Leader may provide direct nursing care as needed and directs nursing care in accordance with Mercyhealth’s Mission, Vision, Values and Philosophy. The role requires maintaining clinical expertise, ensuring exceptional patient experience through quality of care and patient perception metrics, and participating in interview, selection, orientation, training, coaching, mentoring, evaluation, and corrective action for the team.
ShiftDetails
Day shift, no holidays. 80 hours per 2 week staffing schedule.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties- Strong problem‑solving in complex situations.
- Work within budget and productivity targets to meet organizational objectives.
- Assess staff selection, evaluation, orientation, continued education, competency, and scheduling based on patient acuity.
- Partner with Manager/Clinical Leader to ensure staff skills and behaviors align with unit goals.
- Build outstanding professional relationships, including physician relationships.
- Maintain a patient‑focused commitment to quality, safety, and customer service, and lead actions to achieve patient satisfaction targets.
- Support process improvement in operations, quality, and organizational change.
- Apply accreditation and certification standards in the unit’s responsibility area.
- Communicate effectively with individuals and groups using compassion, creativity, and visibility.
- Participate in hospital and department committees.
- Develop and mentor staff and colleagues.
- Lead by example with highly professional behavior and accountability.
- Serve as a role model for nursing excellence and critical moments of service standards.
- Contribute to unit or department performance improvement activities, including shared governance.
- Apply critical thinking to patient safety and experience, escalating appropriately.
- Support nursing clinical ladder for RNs.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN required; BSN completion program available for hire. Minimum of 3 to 4 years of progressively responsible hospital nursing experience. Certification in specialty preferred. Nursing specialty requirements per unit guidelines.
Certification / Licensure- Registered RN in the state of practice.
- 13‑90 day CPR or BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS, NALS may be required per unit.
- Other unit‑specific certifications as needed.
The role requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, handling, and speaking. Close vision and ability to adjust focus are needed.
