A nurse will care for one patient during Pitocin induction and active labor. During vaginal delivery and cesarean section, a nurse will care for two patients.

Electronic fetal monitoring is utilized, and nurses are required to hold advanced certification. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, but no ventilatory support is required in the unit. Float requirements include working in the postpartum and antepartum units.
