Field Technician

Position Overview

TEKsystems is seeking a Field Technician located in Illinois (Rochelle, Rockford, DeKalb, or Peru). This is a Contract to Hire position based in Rockford, IL.

Salary: $25.00 - $32.00/hr.

• Monitor and resolve network issues, supporting customer installations.
• Perform installation, testing, and acceptance of network nodes and colocation sites.
• Provide emergency restoration for fiber and equipment, including aerial and/or buried fiber optic cable.
• Maintain accurate network documentation such as site audits and inventory databases.
• Participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation for Tier I network support.
• Coordinate new customer installations for wholesale, enterprise, and colocation customers (e.g., structured wiring, NID installation).

• Desktop troubleshooting
• Installation, deployment, and maintenance of DS1/DS3, T‑1, and SONET/DWDM systems
• Circuit testing (OTDR, OSA, Ethernet)
• DSO/DS1 installation and maintenance

• Hardware troubleshooting and fiber optic splicing
• SS7/STP support
• Experience with Cisco or Alcatel Lucent IP certifications
• VOIP switching and maintenance
• Telecommunications equipment installation

• Local to the area.
• Minimum 2+ years of field work experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work day, evening, night shifts, overtime, call‑ins, weekends, and holidays.
• Self‑motivated with strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong PC skills and the ability to make sound decisions with minimal supervision.

Four weeks off‑call, then one week primary on‑call, followed by a second week secondary on‑call.
