Position: Youth Services Behavioral Specialist (Juvenile Justice Officer II) - Rockingham YDC

Youth Services Behavioral Specialist (Juvenile Justice Officer II) – Rockingham YDC

The Department of Public Safety’s Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Division is seeking a skilled Behavioral Specialist to work directly with court‑involved youth in a Youth Development Center or Juvenile Detention Center. This full‑time, classroom and hands‑on role requires the ability to restrain juveniles, provide security, and implement treatment plans to facilitate behavioral change and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized and group treatment plans to effect behavioral changes required for youthful offender rehabilitation.
  • Maintain custody, control, and safe engagement of juveniles, providing direct supervision at a Youth Development Center or Juvenile Detention Center.
  • Apply proper restraining methods and procedures to physically restrain juveniles and defend self after training by the department.
  • Work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis and attend a variable work schedule to meet the needs of juveniles and their families.
Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of juvenile justice, behavioral health, or related field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with people.
  • Physical capability to restrain juveniles and defend self following department training.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; or high school diploma or GED and four years of related human services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
