Overview
Support clinical staff by acquiring new patient paperwork and medical records from outside clinic offices to review cardiac information such as testing, and lab results necessary for pre-charting and creation of patient notes in Epic EMR. Obtain vital signs and general health information for patient charts and prepare patients for examination. Assist the provider as needed with examinations and procedures. Performance of tests on patients as ordered by the provider and/or arrange for patient testing, admissions, and referrals.
Enter and record patient information in the medical record in a concise and accurate manner.
Answer phones and manage communications with patients, providers, staff, insurance companies, and other outside entities. Effectively communicate and accurately document via Epic EMR system relaying messages to Physicians and Patient Care team. Manage patient schedules, incoming and outgoing referrals. Obtain insurance authorizations for special testing and working on the Epic work queues, following up with outside offices to ensure patients receive their appropriate appointments.
Demonstrates good verbal and nonverbal communication skills, scanning. Monitoring incoming faxes and other miscellaneous administrative tasks as assigned by the manager. Responsible for ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Ability to multi-task and be organized. Maintain patient confidentiality. Ensure patient records are managed according to HIPAA and regulatory requirements. Work with HIM on timely release of information requests.
Other duties as assigned within scope and standards of practice.
- Must be a graduate from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program with Certification or have a valid NC LPN License. Associate's degree preferred but not
- Assisting providers with patient care (vital signs, specimen collection, EKG, etc.) is
- Experience with the Epic EMR, office skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and insurance terminology is preferred. Excellent communication and computer skills
- Self-starter, highly motivated candidate with friendly, outgoing personality, and excellent customer service skills
- Extensive knowledge of various health insurance plans preferred. A minimum of two years' experience as a Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse within a Cardiology office is preferred.
