The nurse extern is a temporary position for nursing students to practice in all nursing areas. The extern is co-assigned with an RN and may perform direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Qualifications- Student must be in good standing in a nationally accredited nursing program, in their final year of an Associate or Bachelors Degree program.
- Able to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed.
- BLS certification required.
- Assist registered nurses in providing direct patient care to promote comfort and facilitate diagnostic and treatment procedures.
- Perform routine treatments and assist in maintaining a safe, clean environment.
- Assist with activities of daily living, examinations, and procedures as delegated.
- Observe, record, and report patient concerns, symptoms, and reactions.
- Demonstrate knowledge in basic and intermediate care skills.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment to prevent infections.
- Support patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
