Y-Shac assists young people aged between 15-20 years old who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness in crisis accommodation and 16-25 years who are in transitional housing.

Y-SHAC provides young people who are experiencing homelessness, or are at risk of homelessness, with stable accommodation and personalised case management support to build skills for life, connect to education, training and employment and to access appropriate longer-term accommodation.

To provide high quality and comprehensive alcohol and other drug education services to young people accessing Y-SHAC.

This is a full time (1.0 FTE) permanent opportunity based in Spearwood. The successful candidate must be available to work two days per week from 12pm - 8pm.

Desired Skills and Experience

About you

You are a passionate, resilient, and well experienced youth worker who is driven to deliver quality supports to young people.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Diploma level qualification in Human Services, combined with significant skills and experience in youth work, or tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work or related behavioural science discipline (must meet current requirement for eligibility for full membership with Youth Work WA)
  • Case management and assessment skills
  • Ability to accept, respect and work with young people:
    • from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities
    • from different cultures, particularly with Aboriginal & CaLD young people
    • who may identify as LGBTI
    • from all belief systems
  • Up to date knowledge of resources in the youth services field, including alcohol and other drugs, education, training and employment
  • Understanding of youth housing and accommodation systems
  • Strong practice ethos in being person centred, trauma informed and strength based in your approaches

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year and a current WA Working with Children Check.

  • Salary starting from $86,950.50 plus 12% super and salary packaging
  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (which equates to circa $4K after tax) plus additional salary packaging of up to $2,650 for meal and entertainment expenses
  • Additional 3 days leave per year over festive period
