OverviewThe Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is hiring seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians to support highway maintenance and winter operations in Rockingham. This hands‑on role involves repairing guardrails, patching pavement, ditching, clearing brush, picking up litter, and plowing and salting during winter weather events. Overtime may be required.

Environmental FactorsDuties require the ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather, availability for overtime during heavy snowfall or emergencies, reporting outside schedule, and use of tools and heavy equipment. It involves working near moving traffic and hazards including hazardous materials and possible exposure to blood or airborne pathogens. Participation in a random drug and alcohol‑testing program is required. Considerable overtime, especially during winter, is a condition of employment.
Minimum Qualifications- One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months operating medium or heavy equipment (graders, excavators, backhoes).
- OR upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I AND possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
- A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
- Must live within reasonable proximity to assigned workstation.
- Possession of a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required within the first six months.
- Must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled.
