Adult Education English Language Arts/HiSET® Instructor

Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, Thomaston

Position Type:
Part‑time, 8–12 hours weekly (up to 44 weeks per year)

Weekly in‑person meetings on Tuesdays, 9 AM–11 AM when programs are in session. Instructional hours have some flexibility to accommodate teacher and student schedules. Instruction is offered mostly in‑person with some remote teaching opportunities as applicable.

• Prepare students for the Reading, Writing, and Social Studies portions of the High School Equivalency Exam (HiSET®) and offer credit‑based Adult Education Diploma English instruction.
• Use experience creating customized curriculum and incorporating technology in the classroom.
• Track student grades, attendance, and other records as required.
• Check student messages and communicate through Reach My Teach  and Bookings Apps.
• Meet and coordinate regularly with other Adult Education staff.
• Use digital tools such as Schoology, HiSET Academy, EnGEN, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
• Any additional duties related to Adult Education support as assigned.

• Maine State English 7‑12 or Adult Education Endorsement (100) or valid conditional certification.
• Maine Department of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).
• Ability to use technology to deliver classes in a virtual or distance learning format.
• Preferred:
  Experience working with adult learners in an Adult Education program.

• Be a self‑starter who can anticipate and act on needs within a designated span of responsibility.
• Demonstrate an ability to switch between competing priorities as they arise.

Hourly rate of $30 (depending on experience).

Position will be filled when a suitable candidate has been found.
