The Special Education Teacher in the Special Education 853 School, applies technical skills to assist in planning and implementing the academic program and behavioral management of Special Needs children.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and implement I.E.P. goals and objectives. Develop curriculum and instructional materials for individual and group activities. Prepare and implement daily instructional lessons and materials. Adapt lessons to individual student need. Implement and responsible for student behavior intervention plan and documentation when applicable. Collaborate with support staff and clinical team members for child study and monitoring of academic and behavioral progress.
Provide ongoing informal assessment and evaluation of student progress, as well as formalized yearly evaluations through achievement and state-mandated testing. Write educational evaluations and report for students' annual reviews. Actively participate at district level C.S.E meeting for individual students. Participate in in-service training, faculty meetings, team meetings, parent-teacher meetings, and school events. Provide direct supervision of teacher assistant paraprofessionals, one-to-one assistant, and student teachers when applicable.
Education & Experience
- New York State Special Education Certification
- Minimum bachelor's degree in special education
- Experience with special education population
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly and effectively. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
