In order to create a pool of qualified applicants, Sierra College accepts applications in all subject areas and conducts interviews for teaching positions throughout the year. Applications are kept in the hiring pool for two years. The number of open positions varies from semester to semester. The Division Dean or Department Chair will contact you directly for an interview when a position becomes available.
Responsibilities- Curriculum Development – essential duties: review and evaluate curriculum to meet student needs within budget and equipment constraints; coordinate with part-time instructors to ensure consistency; revise course descriptions; present proposals for curriculum changes to appropriate governance bodies; implement changes as approved.
- Lecture/Laboratory Preparation – essential duties: complete book orders and provide master syllabi; place reference items on reserve; prepare lesson plans; coordinate with Instructional Assistants; maintain inventories; prepare materials and equipment for laboratory use; evaluate textbooks; ensure safety and health standards; assist with equipment setup and maintenance.
- Lecture/Laboratory Presentation – essential duties: present material clearly, use examples, provide objectives, use visual aids, distribute handouts, answer questions respectfully, encourage participation, monitor student behavior, develop new lab exercises, promote critical thinking, supervise laboratory activities, ensure equal participation.
- Student Performance Evaluation – essential duties: develop quizzes/tests, monitor examinations, grade papers, manage homework, record grades, advise students on academic matters, refer to student services as needed.
- Shared Governance Participation – essential duties: attend and participate in departmental meetings, respond to information requests, participate in curriculum development and equipment planning; represent the department on committees; peripheral duties include broader participation in college governance.
- Ancillary Student Services – essential duties: hold regular office hours, advise students, model professional behavior, participate in graduation and award ceremonies.
Master's in nutrition, dietetics or dietetics and food administration OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in chemistry, public health or family and consumer studies/home economics OR the equivalent.
Note:
A bachelor’s in nutrition, dietetics, or dietetics and food administration with certification as a registered dietitian is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
This position is a part-time faculty teaching assignment with salary rates per the Part-Time/Adjunct Salary Schedule. Degree and years of acceptable teaching experience determine step placement. Offer and employment are subject to verification of all information provided on the application, credentials, transcripts, Live Scan, and tuberculosis examination as required. Verification of prior employment may be needed to determine minimum qualifications met.
